1st 2nd Final
Los Guapos FC 1 0 1
Panda Bears 1 1 2

August 16, 2009, 2:40 pm at Lincoln Street Field #2, Lexington
Los Guapos started their Fall 2009 campaign braving hot, muggy conditions and a stong opponent in the Panda Bears. Although the Guapos played well and carried the play for good stretches, they came up short on the score sheet. The Guapos started the game off strong with some good passing and possession, but found themselves down early when a Panda Bears forward spotted goalie Mike Gontarek well off his line and struck a well-placed shot from 20 yards out that dropped in behind Gontarek and into the net. Los Guapos evened it up 23 minutes in on a Mark Provenzano corner kick which curled into the net. A defenseman kicked it clear but the referee judged the ball to have already crossed the goal line and awarded the goal. The Guapos had a great opportunity to go ahead one a few minutes later when forward Robb Gavalis tried to put one in off a rebound just 8 yards out but hit the goalpost instead.
Los Guapos started the second half somewhat flat, perhaps due to the heat and humidity taking their toll. The Panda Bears took advantage with some good possession of their own and finally caught Los Guapos in a defensive breakdown when a forward got free on the right side and slid the ball past Gontarek, who tried to come out to cut off the angle. After the goal, Los Guapos stepped it up and regained possession of the ball, but could not find a way to break through the defense. With the Guapos pushing forward, the Panda Bears had a great opportunity to score in the final minutes off a breakaway. But the player lost his footing on the ball as he was getting ready to shoot and the Guapos defense denied him a second chance.
Los Guapos will look to bounce back on August 23 at 10:20 am when they face Fierce Melon (1-0) at Ipswich River Park in North Reading.
